Q: Which preschool calendar does Lumina International Preschool Singapore follow?

A: We follow the French school calendar, while also aligning with Singapore public holidays.

Our school calendar respects attention spans, recovery time, and the lives of families. We have reduced the traditional long summer break to just 4 weeks, resulting in a total of 10 weeks of holidays per year, compared to the average of 13-14 weeks typically seen in other international schools.

During these periods, families also have the option of enrolling their child in our holiday camps, which combine play, exploration, and enrichment activities.

Q: When does enrolment open at Lumina International Preschool?

A: Enrolment opens on 1 September, and applications are considered on a rolling basis until classes are full.

Lumina welcomes children aged 2 to 6 years old.

Team & Learning Environment

Q: Class Sizes at Our International Preschool

A: Our classes are intentionally small, ensuring that every child is truly seen, supported, and given individual attention.

Groups remain limited in size to allow teachers to build strong connections and guide each child’s growth with care.

Q: What qualifications do Lumina’s teachers have?

A: All of our teachers hold at least a recognised diploma in early childhood education and bring extensive international and multicultural teaching experience.

At Lumina, they also take part in a rigorous professional development programme, ensuring their practice continues to grow in line with the latest research in education and child development.

Q: Which languages are taught at Lumina?

A: Families can choose between a bilingual French–English pathway or a trilingual French–English–Mandarin pathway, reflecting the diversity of Singapore while opening doors to the world.

Q: What makes Lumina unique?

A: At Lumina, we are small by design, so every child is truly known and supported.

Our two pathways — French bilingual and Singapore-based trilingual — are enriched with neuroscience, social-emotional learning, and multilingual immersion.

This creates a learning journey that prepares children not only for school, but for life.

Q: What do you look for when hiring teachers?

A: At Lumina, we believe teachers shape the heart of the school.

That’s why we are highly selective: our teachers bring recognised qualifications, solid experience, and — most importantly — a deep belief that children thrive when they are respected, understood, and inspired.

We look for educators who combine expertise and heart, and who are curious, caring, and committed to lifelong learning.

Curriculum & Pedagogy

Q: What is your teaching philosophy?

A: Children don’t just learn what to know — they learn how their brain learns.

Our pedagogy blends inquiry, play, emotional intelligence, and neuroscientific insights to nurture curiosity, confidence, and compassion.

Q: How is your curriculum different?

A: Beyond strong academics, we integrate outdoor learning, multilingual immersion, flexible learning spaces, and intentional social-emotional education.

This prepares children not only for school, but for life.

Practical Information

Q: Do you provide preschool transport services?

A: Yes.

A school bus service is available in selected neighbourhoods, subject to demand (minimum of 8 families).

Q: Do you provide meals?

A: Choosing the right caterer is not an easy decision.

Sugar is almost unavoidable in most menus, and we know how strongly it can affect children’s behaviour and wellbeing.

That’s why we are still carefully exploring our options to find a solution that truly aligns with our philosophy and the needs of the children.

In the meantime, we invite families to provide a lunchbox for their child, which also allows cultural diversity to be celebrated at the table.

Preparing Children for the Future

Q: How does Lumina prepare children for primary school?

A: By giving them a solid foundation in literacy, numeracy, and languages, combined with confidence, emotional intelligence, and independence.

These skills allow children to thrive in both local and international primary schools, whatever pathway families choose after kindergarten.

Q: How do you support children with diverse learning needs?

A: We work closely with families to understand each child, adapting the environment and drawing on a multidisciplinary team when needed.

Our goal is that every child feels safe, supported, and ready to learn — always in close dialogue with parents, because partnership is key to every child’s success.

Q: How do parents stay informed and involved?

A: Communication with families is central at Lumina.

We share updates through newsletters, parent–teacher meetings, and workshops, and we are always open to dialogue.

Parents are partners in the learning journey.

Q: What is your approach to behaviour and discipline?

A: We use positive guidance, never punitive methods.

Our goal is to help children understand their emotions, develop self-regulation, and learn to make thoughtful choices.

Respect and kindness guide every step.
